Sierra College Wins Golden Gate Classic

The Sierra College Wolverines beat Santa Rosa 72-59 to win the Golden Gate Classic. Sierra is now 11-1 on the season and went 3-0 in the Golden Gate Classic. After the 1st quarter, Sierra had a four-point lead of 19-15.

In the second quarter, Sierra scored 18 points to Santa Rosa’s 11 to take a 37-26 lead at the half. In the second half, Santa Rosa kept pace with Sierra but could not get over the hump to cut into the lead.

Jenna Duley and Jesse Miller led Sierra in scoring with 15 points apiece, Rachel Loya added ten points, Brianna Lambey scored nine points, and Kiki Griffen pitched in with eight points of her own. Miller also grabbed ten rebounds, giving her a double; Griffen had ten rebounds, she was a monster on the boards in the Golden Gate Classic.

Duley also dished out four assists and had five steals. Griffen and Miller both added four steals of their own. Once again, Sierra did a great job on defense, holding Santa Rosa to 32.8% from the field. The Wolverines pressure defense also for Santa Rosa into 24 turnovers. This season, defense, defense, and more defense have been the Wolverines calling card.

Duley was selected All-Tourney, and Miller won the MVP of the Golden Gate Classic. Great job, girls.
