The Las Vegas Raiders struck a deal with cornerback Casey Hayward. The signing will reunite Hayward with defensive coordinator Gus Bradley, his defensive coordinator for the last four years with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Last Season Hayward played in 14 games, he had one interception, and eight passes defended. In the past five years, Hayward has led the AFC in passes defended with 66. In 2016 the cornerback led the NFL in interceptions with seven and made the Pro Bowl in 2016 and 2017.
The Raiders adding Hayward now have a crowded cornerback room. Las Vegas already has Trayvon Mullen, Damon Arnette, Amik Robertson, Nevin Lawson, and Isaiah Johnson, to name a few. The Raiders will hope Hayward could regain his Pro Bowl form. Hayward will provide another option to start at the corner position if Arnette does not improve or move to the slot.
In nine seasons in the NFL, Hayward has 23 interceptions, and 100 passes defended. Signing Casey Hayward was a great move by the Raiders because he brings experience and knows Bradley’s defense.
