Liz Cambage finally signed with the Las Vegas Aces; the move will probably make the Aces the favorite to win the WNBA title. Cambage was given the core designation, so she could only negotiate with the Aces.
Cambage did not play last year in the WNBA bubble but did play in the WNBL for the Southside Flyers. Liz helped lead the Flyers to a WNBL championship.
Cambage spoke with the media via zoom and had this to say. “My game was good; it can always get better,” said Cambage; I can always learn more, sharpening every tool I have on my belt.”
Liz Cambage will team up on the front line with 2020 WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson, who had a great season last year with 20.5 points per game. It will be a test for Cambage and Wilson to see how they play together. In the 2019 season, both played together in Wilson’s second year. Cambage averaged 15.9 points and Wilson 16.5 points. So it can be done. Cambage loves playing with Wilson.
“I love playing with her, Watching her last year pushing through, leading the team while so young. All I’ve got for that girl is nothing but love and respect.”
Camabge and Wilson will need to sacrifice their game for the team’s betterment as they did in 2019. Aces head coach bill Lamibeer agrees, “They both sacrificed their individual statistics for the good of the whole, which was wonderful to have. They both had that respect factor that all they cared about was winning.”
Las Vegas added point guard Chelsea Gray and will be getting back Kelsey Plum. Both players will have the ball in their hands a lot and need to keep Wilson and Cambage involved with the offense. The Aces will be a fun team to watch all season.
Cambage has played four seasons in the WNBA and has averaged 16.7 points, 7.6 rebounds per game. The Center has put in a lot of work during the offseason; Cambage has been working on ball handling, post moves, and three-point shooting. She will be a massive asset for the Aces.
