After five straight losing seasons, the Los Angeles Angels have finally decided to fire general manager Billy Eppler. Epple became the GM before the 2016 season. Eppler was an assistant general manager of the New York Yankees from 2012-2014.
In the five years with Eppler as the GM, the Angels went 332-376 and finished this season 26-35.
“The Angels organization would like to thank Billy for his dedication and work ethic over the last five years,” president John Carpino said in a statement. “We wish him and his family all the best.”
Billy Eppler did manage to lock up Mike Trout to a 12-year deal and sign Anthony Rendon, Andrelton Simmons, and Shohei Ohtani. But his downfall was not being able to rebuild the Angels pitching staff; Los Angeles struggled with pitching for a few years now.
